Cool Nights and Sunny Days At Perdido Key

We have been having some cool nights around 2 Celsius 38F here at the beach and with all the rain we have also been having we are seriously considering moving somewhere warmer...We are so torn because we love it here with the river on one, and the Gulf on the other, side of us. The park here (Playa Del Rio) is so small that we have a real sense of community going also.

Yesterday we had a fifth wheel and it's three occupants (including a little dachshund) from Tennessee leave because they were not looking forward to the forecast! We also had Scott and Theresa return as work campers! Scott and Theresa have a big MCI Bus motor home with air brakes and a diesel engine and they have two cats. Reggie is smitten by one of their big cats...not sure why exactly but such is "puppy love".

Check out Playa Del Rio (http://www.playadelrio.com/) or Perdido Key (www.visitflorida.com/Perdido_Key) to see where we are...

As we drove on the Beach boulevard today we say six fishing boats of various sizes out on the gulf close to shore fishing so I am sure that Richard and I will head out with his tall poles later today when it warms up. Perhaps another Pompano day!

Spring Break 2009...Condo's are Filling Up!

My earlier winter shots of the beach here at Perdido Key are nothing like this as you may recall. This week is spring break 2009 and there are the young, the younger and the usual suspects (snowbirds) frolicking on the beach. Where once there were pristine, untouched sands that seemed to reach forever into the distance there are now kites flying, beach umbrellas blowing in the wind, sunbathers of all shapes and sizes and many , many more people trying to fish... The condo's are being rented these days!

We have water sports now and the only blessing is that the roar of the sea overpowers the sound of the engine so it is like watching a "silent" dance of the mechanical water nymphs unfold, disturbing the view of the majestic sea itself. The Harleys rumble along the coastal highway, sometimes turning into our campground, chugging along the lane beckonning the uninitiated to the "easy rider" life!

The children have been playing hard in the sea, running with their body boards under the watchful eye of mom or dad nearby. It feels like summer but it is March - not even spring yet, and certainly still winter where we are from!

What's new in Perdido Key?

PAYTON AND BROOKLYN

This is a favorite photo that Lisa sent me of the two girls. They are so adorable and I am sure that when they are in their twenties they will love this photo too. All is well here at Perdido Key. We are expecting my Aunt Kirsten from Denmark next week for two weeks.

LISA (my Daughter) and KIRSTEN (My Aunt)

We will pick her up at the airport in New Orleans and stay at the Airport Hilton overnight because her plane is arriving late and she will have been travelling for 20 hours (poor her!). She will enjoy the sun I am sure! She told me this morning that it has been cold and she has been scraping her car off twice a day!!!

Richard and Christina - Week 2 - Nov 30th 2008

I notice that we were a little pale when we first arrived here and now we are very tanned from the beach and fishing...

Yesterday Louise and Mark were on the shopping channel selling Mark's Yoga videos. I watched it, on the internet, two of the airings - it was live three times during the day. They did very well, looked great and enjoyed the experience I am sure! Louise is an ambassador for Lululemon Athletica this year...

Lille Jule Aften - Little Christmas Eve Dec 23rd

Today we drove North on Highway 59 and through some typical Alabama countryside. Trees and brush!

Along the way was a very beautifully decorated quaint country inn.

Today was 63 F and partly cloudy and very windy. The ocean was very wavy and there were two flags flying; the yellow caution flag and a dangerous marine wildlife flag (I am thinking "sharks!"). I didn't go in the water today!!!

I talked about seeing the Piggly Wiggly in one of my earlier posts and captured it today in digital format!

We drove up to the Outlet again today and Richard got ooodles of Hilfiger golf shirts - great prices and an online coupon brought the mark downs to 75 percent off !!! Unbelievable deals. We also went beyond there to the Camping world and saw big,big "you drive" motorhomes that were beautiful and much less expensive than our Airstream. The quality of the Airstream was clearly better though and we are very happy in it.

We have seen quite a few "don't feed the Aligator signs " but no aligators - Richard thinks they are hibernating! Hope so!! There have been flat fish and a ray down at the Marina side of the RV park and Pelicans fish there every day. We are missing you all and Richard and I both send our best wishes to you all for a happy , healthy and safe holiday season.

Tomorrow is devoted to fishing!
