Last Boat Ride of this Trip-maybe of the Summer?!

Our toys, some old (Rasta Van) some newer (Boat and Airstream)!
Richard loves being on the water ... he is very relaxed behind the wheel of the boat! I, on the other hand, can be seen clutching the sides when the boat lifts off as we speed at nearly 50 Miles (!)PH across the water! You don't want to see a picture of that!
It was a calm day but still we were airborne many times and Richard just smiles!

Green, green, algae laden waters this year.

Richard had to install our own cleats on the dock this year...look how neatly he belays the cleat!

The boat is now up on dry land again and we are getting it ready for the drive home to Ottawa. We had one last ride today and it may be the last of the season. The water here in Col By Lake and the adjoining Rideau canal is green with algae, the worst I have ever seen it! It looked like we were careening over an oil slick and we thought of the Gulf of Mexico and how that might look something the same near the source - slippery and soupy! Here it must have been the very warm weather that bloomed so much algae...

Beautiful Days at Perdido Key

Kirsten enjoying the beach at Perdido Key - the water was particularly beautiful this past thursday (Jan 22)!

Kirsten admiring the beautiful shells she picked up on the beach. Shells of the Florida Panhandle are very nice indeed, varied and colourful!

Richard was enjoying surf fishing when we joined him on the beach... Check out the pole in the sand just past them...

Sports in the Water at Perdido Key!

Surfers....

This week has seen many newcomers to the beach including more snowbirds, holiday revellers with their families and vacationers with sports in mind. With access to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Gulf we saw surfers and kayakers this week enjoying their sports! The surf is not as high as would be ideal for some sportsmen but, I am certain there would be nothing like kayaking with Dolphins around you in the water.

Ed and his wife from Georgia were here on a brief holiday in their Montana fifth wheel and took the opportunity to kayak in both the waterway by the Marina but also in the Gulf itself. This morning there were three dolphins in the water with them. Ed was warned by the locals that the sharks feed this time of year at daybreak and sunset but that did not discourage him in the least....

Lille Jule Aften - Little Christmas Eve Dec 23rd

Today we drove North on Highway 59 and through some typical Alabama countryside. Trees and brush!

Along the way was a very beautifully decorated quaint country inn.

Today was 63 F and partly cloudy and very windy. The ocean was very wavy and there were two flags flying; the yellow caution flag and a dangerous marine wildlife flag (I am thinking "sharks!"). I didn't go in the water today!!!

I talked about seeing the Piggly Wiggly in one of my earlier posts and captured it today in digital format!

We drove up to the Outlet again today and Richard got ooodles of Hilfiger golf shirts - great prices and an online coupon brought the mark downs to 75 percent off !!! Unbelievable deals. We also went beyond there to the Camping world and saw big,big "you drive" motorhomes that were beautiful and much less expensive than our Airstream. The quality of the Airstream was clearly better though and we are very happy in it.

We have seen quite a few "don't feed the Aligator signs " but no aligators - Richard thinks they are hibernating! Hope so!! There have been flat fish and a ray down at the Marina side of the RV park and Pelicans fish there every day. We are missing you all and Richard and I both send our best wishes to you all for a happy , healthy and safe holiday season.

Tomorrow is devoted to fishing!
