Your Weather: De-Iceing the plane - The Weather Network I saw this while checking the weather in Ottawa this morning and it left me feeling a little more chilly! We have had cool and sunny weather here on the panhandle with the next couple of nights dipping below freezing...but the Airstream is nice and warm and so are we. This little de-icing clip is chilling and it made me think about why air travel in the winter scares me a bit! I was thinking of another trip home to see the family in February but now ... not so sure...

Just for my Rving readers who follow the Blog... please be sure to get a copy of The Next Exit before your next trip on the Interstates of the USA. For many of us, getting from one place to the next does not just involve using the biways or scenic routes, it means getting somewhere quickly ...ergo the Interstate. What do you do when you need to pull over for gas or for supplies...and you don't have mobile Internet? Well this directory was recommended to us and now I won't go traveling in the US without it! It lists what is at every Interstate exit and gives you an indication of whether it is an RV friendly place as well.

Hello everyone ! You must have thought we dropped off the map! Well we are back home and just got our Internet Connection resurrected ... the Airstream, now named Airebella, is resting at the storage facility...We have seen the grandchildren! and the children, nieces, siblings....neighbours and friends....

We drove through Florida, Alabama,Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio (including the Airstream Plant), Pennsylvania, and New York States and Ontario!

We said goodbye to David, Nancy and Millie today and hope they get home safely! Nancy and I were laughing this morning because we had been overwhelmed with tornado warnings on the weather channel in Perdido Key area (even though I am sure none have ever touched down on the barrier island that is Perdido Key) and last night we both saw the same clip about snakes, including poisonous ones, and how to avoid them this time of year...

Once they departed our Airstream was alone in this row for a while... One thing we heard is that the campgrounds fill up with the transient travellers this time of year so make your bookings ahead of time. On the way south in the fall we actually stayed at Flying J's with no hook-ups, under generator power. I am liking the full hook-up luxury much better! It is much more convenient and adds to the leisure time experience!!!:-).

This campground is great: long, level pull throughs, pool and hot tub, WI FI, Cable TV and very clean bathrooms and shower facilities, even though I showered in the Airstream today - meaning I moved the stuff I was storing in the shower area! Ahhhh the life of a traveller!





Kristy and Sean of www.thelonglonghoneymoon.com came to visit us at the Birmingham South Campground and it was so nice to meet them in person. They were recently featured on the HGTV show RV 2009 and enjoy an Airstream as well. We were interviewed by them for their Blog site , that is, if anything we said made any sense at all! We shall see. I enjoyed their stories of romance, and adventure in their Airstream as we were dreaming of the open road (but still working at the time) and you will too so check it out. We shared stories, talked Airstreams and Snowbirding and what we were both planning in the weeks to come...

A Little About the Area ...

Pensacola, the city we are close to is one of the oldest settlements in America. It is less than 20 miles to the east.

Excellent venues for food and entertainment on the Emerald Coast are plentiful in this area. We have heard a lot about the restaurant and Seafood vendor Joe Patti's and we can't wait to visit it soon. Joe Patti's Seafood Company originated in 1931 from the back porch of Captain Joe and Anna's home in Pensacola.

We are also very close to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Foley, Alabama. The city of Mobile is about an hours drive away.

Entertainment around here includes night spots on the Beach:

"The Flora-Bama Lounge and Package (aka The Flora-Bama), located on Perdido Key in Pensacola, Florida, is a beachside oyster bar, nightclub, and Gulf Coast cultural landmark, touted as being America's "Last Great Roadhouse". The Flora-Bama takes its name from its location only feet away from the Florida-Alabama border (it is officially located entirely in Florida). The bar was originally in Florida but due to a dispute between the two states about building a bridge over the Perdido pass, Florida gave Alabama the land from the pass to the bar in exchange for not having to pay for construction of the bridge.....There is live music to be had every day of the week, with usually at least five bands playing on Saturdays. It is still a spot likely to attract celebrity visitors, with faces such as Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Kid Rock, and Kenny Stabler sometimes seen amongst the patrons." .... Wikipedia

Another hotspot is The Hangout (http://www.thehangoutal.com/) where Highway 59 meets the Gulf. This is a beach gathering place dating back to the 50's. The web site is under construction but there are some cool old photos there. We went there for breakfast and had a table that looked out over the Gulf. The windows are huge garage door type openings that can be retracted completely to give the feel of having breakfast right on the shore! They are open for breakfast lunch and dinner and the Bar is open late of course!

This is a favorite photo that Lisa sent me of the two girls. They are so adorable and I am sure that when they are in their twenties they will love this photo too. All is well here at Perdido Key. We are expecting my Aunt Kirsten from Denmark next week for two weeks.

We will pick her up at the airport in New Orleans and stay at the Airport Hilton overnight because her plane is arriving late and she will have been travelling for 20 hours (poor her!). She will enjoy the sun I am sure! She told me this morning that it has been cold and she has been scraping her car off twice a day!!!



Richard and Christina - Week 2 - Nov 30th 2008

I notice that we were a little pale when we first arrived here and now we are very tanned from the beach and fishing...

Yesterday Louise and Mark were on the shopping channel selling Mark's Yoga videos. I watched it, on the internet, two of the airings - it was live three times during the day. They did very well, looked great and enjoyed the experience I am sure! Louise is an ambassador for Lululemon Athletica this year...
